Hi All
This is very a wonderful blog.
First and foremost, when getting into any business dont expect someone else to do your work for you. You MUST go out there and market yourself. The reason why some people are feeling frustrated by rabbit keeping is because they expect some clients to just show up at their door step to buy rabbits.
You have seen people selling insurance running up and down and being annoyingly persistent and it all pays at the end.
You must embrace the business totally, take it as your baby and nurture it for you to get the desired results.
There is market for rabbits.
Before i started keeping rabbits i could tell guys that i intend to keep rabbits and three months down as i was preparing everything including rabbit structures i already had three clients in line and after selling to them, they still came back for more. There are orders but the problem is being able to meet this demand.
It is all up to ones attitude.

i made up my mind to start rearing rabbits for home consunption with an intention of going commercial later when i get the market. i know the market is there only if one is willing to look for it and only when you can sell it at a reasonable price. we are living in hard economic tyms where anybody intending to do business wit a kenyan must tend to be careful not to damage his pocket as well as not ignore other products that are available in the mkt ie pork beef etc. i nd ear lobed breed n am in meru

Hi

Thanks Mr Mbitu for your clarification. I now get you right.

You are not discouraging but advising.
I believe commercial rabbit keeping is just like any other business where one has to market his/her products.

Can the farmers stop falling prey to these fraudsters calling themselves marketers or even service providers. THEY ARE JUST CONS.

Finally got it right these time round. I got pure breads, from 3 i now have 17 pure breads, very nice and addictive, initially as pets, now most people look at them, ask questions and place their orders. They are very cheap and easy to maintain. I do it in my back yard, the meat is soooo good and yes alot, the benefits are phenomenon, more proteins with low cholesteral. The need no much space and take just very few of your minutes to sort them out. prepare your cage and you are good to go, more so google to ain info. do not listen to loosers, its fun doing it.

Interessting!! After 2 years of reading how this is the next best thing to "ugali na sukuma wiki" Mr Mbitu comes and tells us it's all a big con! Actually after reading all the praises of this rabbit industry I started thinking to myself "there must be a catch somewhere...!" Personnaly I don't come across any rabbits ANYWHERE in Kenya (hotels or homes) so I'm also still wondering "who eats these rabbits?", coz am thinking I'd have to sell at least 100 a month to make it worthwhile. All you people producing rabbits, where are they being sold. In the meantime tho I might try for home consumption!
